AeroShell oil W 15W-50 is a premium semi-synthetic multigrade ashless despersant oil specifically developed for aviation piston engines. AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 is a special blend of a high quality mineral oil and synthetic hydrocarbons with an advanced additive package that has been specifically formulated for mulitgrade applications. The combination on non-metallic and anti-wear and selected high viscosity index mineral and synthetic base oils, give exceptional stability, dispersancy and anti-foaming performance. The advanced additive package in AeroShell W 15W-50 provides excellent protection to engines operating at extreme ambient tempuratures. The ashless anti-wear additive package provides exceptional wear protection for camshafts, lifters and other wearing surfaces. AeroShell W 15W-50 has become very popular amongst engine manufacturers and operators alike. In order to cater for those Lycoming engines that need improved load carrying, the LW-16702 antiwear additive has been incorporated into the formulation thus eliminating the need for supplemental additive addition. Specifications and Approvals: Avco Lycoming 301F (Service Bulletin 1014J and revisions, 446C & 471). Teledyne Continental MHS-24B (Service Bulletin M81-11 and revisions). Pratt & Whitney all radial engines (Service Bulletin 1183 revision R). FAA Airworthy Directive 80-04-03. Ships ground economy to the USA lower 48 States only.
AeroShell W 15W50 promotes engine cleanness. The non-ash forming, polymeric additive as developed to help eliminate the harmful combustion chamber deposits that occur during normal operation.
AeroShell W 15W50 has multigrade performance which allows for improved engine operation in temperature extremes.
AeroShell W 15W50 has excellent low temperature characteristics which provides easier cold weather starting and rapid lubication of engine parts.
AeroShell W 15W50 reduces oil consumption is some cases by up to 50%, resists thickening at low temperatures and reduces fuel consumption by up to 5% over straight grade engine oils.
AeroShell W 15W50 is an all season oil as there is no need to change from a winter / summer grade depending on the ambient temperature.

Versatile oil for most piston aircraft (my opionion)
I’ve been using this oil for decades, no issues, knock on wood. You will find various pricing, even less from other companies but when you factor in the shipping cost it is typically close. It never hurts to shop, save a few dollars for the hamburger.

This is a superior multi viscosity oil.
This is a superior multi viscosity oil. I have used it in my airplanes for 45 or so years in all sorts of weather with great results – good oil analysis at oil changes – minimal engine wear. I have no reservations in recommending this oil.However the packaging, shipping and handling on my order just plain sucked. One of the bottles had a loose top and made a big mess contaminating the other product in the box.
Great oil, fast shipping
I have used this oil for over 20 years in my aircraft; highly recommended by my mechanic. This oil can also be used in other engines, particularly air cooled engines and vintage car engines which need this type of oil. I received the shipment much faster than promised and the price was more than fair. Aircraft Spruce sells the oil for about the same price, BUT, Spruce charges a hefty shipping fee.
